Early In 2009 the Border Medical Association identified that quality, sustainable and affordable pathology services were critical to ensure the continuing medical needs of the Albury Wodonga community

Albury Wodonga and the Border region has one of the fastest growing rural population centres in Australia. The Border Medical Association (BMA), local medical practices, local hospitals, medical businesses together with the Border Medical Recruitment Task Force (BMRT) have been successful in recruiting many medical practitioners into the local community with the result that Albury Wodonga has one of the few, if not only, growing regional medical populations.

A proposal was developed to establish a locally owned, community based pathology service tailored to meet the requirements of the local referrers and patients, so supporting the future availability of sound, holistic medical services across the Border region.

Border Pathology will continue to grow to meet the requirements of the local community, introducing new tests performed locally. Border Pathology will continue to employ local people and plans to direct up to 20% of any profits towards enhancing local medical services, including medical recruitment and medical student scholarships based upon recommendations presented by the Border Medical Association.
